The Israeli hacker was arrested in Canada last year for allegedly stealing about $1.5 million from Canadian banks. But before Canadian authorities could prosecute him, U.S. officials filed an extradition request to bring him to the States.Prosecutors alleged in an extradition affidavit that Tenenbaum hacked into two U.S. banks, a credit- and debit-card distribution company and a payment processor, in what they called a global “cash-out” conspiracy.

A guide to keep away from online thieves First of all, what is hacking? In computer language, hacking is the art of detecting the loop hole in the security system of a computer and exploiting that loop hole to intrude in the main system. The intention may be evil or may even be a step to find and fix the vulnerabilities. A computer system is designed to have a strong security mechanism but due to limitations of human intelligence, the security mechanism is not a perfect one.

Nestled near a row of sultry, silvery-green palm trees and a 205-foot-long infinity pool, room 1508 at the National Hotel on South Beach is a portrait of Art Deco luxury. It is also where, on May 7, 2008, federal agents seized two computers, $22,000 in cash and a Glock 9 gun from a man known on the Internet as “soupnazi.” His real name is Albert Gonzalez, and he was with his girlfriend when federal agents arrived. Just as the setting was not run-of-the-mill, neither was the arrest.

Those of you who’ve been reading this blog regularly know that I occasionally blog about security, and in fact, was the first worldwide to break the news about the Facebook “Error Check System” rogue application. Computer Systems Security Is A Tedious Job Computers are perhaps a highly technological irony. As long as secure servers are working properly, it can allow Internet users to transact business such as sell their products or make purchases without ever having to worry if their information is being hacked. Yet they are inherently vulnerable to hackers whenever connected to the Internet. That is why it is important to learn how to enhance computer systems security.

Now that I’m finding myself traveling more for presentations and just “working” in coffee shops, airports, and other venues, I’m thinking more about the dangers of shared WiFi access. I don’t want to be an alarmist or over-react, but I also want to be well informed and take reasonable precautions to safeguard my own information and my digital footprint . With these thoughts in mind, I read Hilary Whiteman’s article last week for CNN, “Security experts warn of dangers of rogue Wi-Fi hotspots” with interest.
