failed viral campaign

I was flipping through the channels earlier and saw this crap taking up the lower half of some show I don’t watch… My curiosity was piqued and I hopped on the box to see what was up.

Upon examination of a seemingly born to fail viral campaign, I noticed that Twitter is tracking ALL internal and external links again.

http://twitter.com/link_click_count?url=http%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FJPFRINGE&linkType=username&tweetId=3747300530&userId=-1&authenticity_token=f602770979b0fa66df6f762b778175fe6319503f

Looks like this is actually upsetting people more than you’d expect… People on slower connections can visibly see the 302 “temporary” redirect as its happens. Given Twitter’s previous problems with slow service, this seems like an extremely bad idea. Basically, they are sacrificing usablilty for their own corporate greed. It wouldn’t be the first time a seemingly good-natured company went down this road… *cough*google*cough*

Still, this bugs me less than their leasing of the “statuses/firehose” to anyone with the money… At least this is tracking less data anyway.
